REPORT WATER WASTE TO CONSERVE@SUNNYSLOPEWATERCOMPANY.COM

SUNNY SLOPE WATER COMPANY IS MOVING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION WHEN IT COMES TO WATER CONSERVATION.

EMERGENCY WATER CONSERVATION REGULATIONS
(STATE WATER BOARD MANDATES)
EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY
.

We continue to experience one of the driest years for water supply in California history. California has mandated conservation practices requiring us to reduce our water consumption by 20% during this stage. The California Water Board has mandated stage 3 drought regulations. Our water table is at a historic low point, which places all of us in a critical situation. Sunny Slope Water Company requests our customer’s assistance during this severe drought. The Water Board has directed urban water suppliers to develop rate structures and other pricing mechanisms, including but not limited to surcharges, fees, and penalties, to maximize water conservation consistent with statewide water restrictions. We will be adopting a number of water conservation practices.
Effective immediately, the State Water Board has instituted emergency water conservation regulations prohibiting the following;
Impact on Homeowners:

·         Outdoor watering is limited to only one day a week. If your address ends in an odd number, You will be allowed to water Tuesday. If your address ends in an even number, you will be allowed to water on Thursday.

·         No watering during the hours of 9:00 am through 6:00 pm

·         No washing down sidewalks or driveways

·         No watering outdoor landscapes in a manner that causes excess runoff

·         No washing a motor vehicle with a hose unless the hose is fitted with a shut-off nozzle

·         No operating a fountain or decorative water feature unless the water is part of a recirculating system.

·         No watering turf or ornamental landscapes during 48 hours following measurable precipitation

Impact on Commercial Businesses (in addition to homeowner’s limitations):

·         Outdoor watering is limited to only one day a week. If your address ends in an odd number, you will be allowed to water Tuesday. If your address ends in an even number, you will be allowed to water Thursday.

·         No watering during the hours of 9:00 am through 6:00 pm

·         Restaurants and other food service establishments can only serve water to customers on request

·         Hotels and motels must provide guests with the option of choosing not to have towels and linens laundered daily and prominently display notice of this option

We can all do many things during our daily activities to significantly reduce future water restrictions. Some of these activities are listed on the reverse side of this letter.

By conserving water now, we will help ensure that there will be enough water available for future generations. Let’s work together on the efficient use of this precious resource. If you have questions, please contact our Water Conservation Department.

Outdoor Water Savings

1.       Water your garden and lawn only when needed. Step on your grass, if it springs back when you lift

your foot, it doesn’t need water.

2.       Check your sprinkler system and adjust it so only your lawn is watered and not the house, sidewalk,

          or street.

3.       Reduce your watering days to once or twice per week depending on the drought stage.

4.       Repair leaky faucets, plumbing joints, sprinkler heads, spa pumps, and hose bibs immediately.

5.       Don’t run the hose while washing your car. Use a bucket or a self-closing nozzle.

6.       Use a broom instead of the hose for cleaning driveways, sidewalks, and patios.

7.       Don’t water lawns and landscaping between the hours of 9:00 am and 6:00 pm.

8.       Choose a water-efficient irrigation system such as a drip irrigation system and smart irrigation

          controllers.

Indoor Water Savings

1.       Install water-saving shower heads; install flow restrictors or aerators on faucets.

2.       Use only full loads in the washing machine and dishwasher.

3.       Take 5-minute showers. Get wet, turn the water off, soap, scrub and then turn the water on to rinse.

4.       Avoid unnecessary flushing. Don’t use toilets as a wastebasket.

5.       While waiting for hot water to come down the pipes, use a bucket to catch the water flow for later

usage on house plants or in your garden.

6.       Don’t let the water run while shaving, washing your face or brushing your teeth.

7.       Don’t use running water to thaw frozen foods, defrost overnight in the refrigerator. Minimize the use

of kitchen sink disposals; they require a large amount of water to operate. Replace old washing

machines and toilets with high-efficiency equipment.
